Throughout the first evening of Vanderbilt’s IMPACT Symposium, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright spoke to a fair many weighty topics — unilateralism, humanitarian aid, NATO, climate change, genocide — but answered the one frivolous question with equal interest: How did she end upon on Gilmore Girls?
Albright immediately admitted she had been a fan anyway — even disappointed like legions it’s not still going.
“They called my office and asked, would I mind if they cast someone to play me? Yes, I would mind. I want to play myself,” Albright laughed.
Even more so once she knew the episode would see Rory, the daughter protagonist, return to college to complete her education.
“The actress who played Rory (Alexis Bledel) actually looks something like my youngest daughter,” she said. “And when my family saw the episode, they all said, oh you’re not really acting, you’re just playing yourself. I had a great time, though.”
